Good Jobs for Bear Stadium
On July 26th, the Newark City Council voted to approve a multi-million dollar tax abatement for the redevelopment of the former Riverfront Stadium in Newark NJ, the former home of the Newark Bears, a project by the name of CitiSquare Newark.
Accurate Builders and Developers (the developer of this project) committed to a labor peace agreement, with good jobs and benefits for the approximate 95 building service workers that will be employed at this site. To date, the developer has failed to fulfill this commitment.
Developers who get tax breaks in Newark should guarantee good jobs that pay family-sustaining wages and offer meaningful benefits like quality affordable health insurance, and respect for workers’ rights.
