32BJ SEIU Announces Mass. Endorsements in General Election

Union is Backing Candidates Who Stand for Democracy & Working Families

BOSTON—Following a member-led vetting process, 32BJ SEIU is endorsing 17 candidates for political office for the general election on November 8. The candidates have demonstrated their commitment to working families and racial and economic justice, including committing to upholding the Work and Family Mobility Act, which was passed earlier this year and will ensure that immigrants without status can qualify for a standard state driver’s license.

In the statewide races, endorsed candidates include Maura Healy for Governor and Andrea Campbell for Attorney General, both of whom the union endorsed ahead of the September primaries. They are also supporting Kim Driscoll for Lieutenant Governor and Diana DiZoglio for State Auditor.

“The working men and women of SEIU 32BJ have always been vocal staunch advocates for fairness, opportunity and equity,” said Kim Driscoll. “Earning this endorsement means the world to me and I’m eager to work in partnership with 32BJ as we tackle together the toughest challenges facing our Commonwealth. I’m so grateful for this support!”

32BJ SEIU is also endorsing the following candidates for State Senate: Pavel Payano, Liz Miranda, Becca Rausch, John Cronin, and Robyn Kennedy. In the State Representative races, the union has endorsed Estela Reyes, William Straus, Erika Uyterhoeven, Rita Mendes, Tram Nguyen, Judith Garcia, Sam Montaño, and Natalie Higgins.

“We’re at a crucial moment in Massachusetts and nationwide, one where our very democracy is on the line. It’s more important than ever that we elect diverse political leaders who are fierce advocates for working people, racial and economic justice, green communities, and equity for all,” said Executive Vice President of 32BJ SEIU Roxana Rivera. “These candidates have shown their commitment to our members and their communities, and we are proud to endorse them. We are also proud to stand up for public safety and our immigrant communities by encouraging everyone in Massachusetts to vote yes on question 4, which would protect our roads and boost our state’s economy by allowing more immigrants to obtain a driver’s license.”

With 175,000 members in 12 states and Washington, D.C., including 19,000 in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers’ union in the country.
